The Prescott and Russell Law Association has run a library in the courthouse at 1047 Queen Street L’Orignal since 1926. This library is available only to lawyers, judges and court staff. It is named for long time L’Orignal lawyer and Crown Attorney Henri Proulx who was called to the bar in 1933 and died in 1986. For over 50 years he practised out of the red brick building at 28 Court Street that is now the offices of the Provincial Offences Court.
Out of town lawyers have the right to use the library as well and the access code may be obtained from court staff the Crown Attorney’s office or from the law firm of Tolhurst & Miller on King Street beside the Post Office.
Lawyers can also access the on-line services of Quicklaw© LibraryCo and all the services usually found at the larger law libraries across the Province.
The library is staffed part time and research requests maybe left for the librarian.
Lawyers who are members of the association have the right to access the collections of every other county library in the province and inter-library loans are possible.
