If you are unable to afford a lawyer you may be eligible for Legal Aid. The Ontario system of legal assistance is administered by Legal Aid Ontario, an independent corporation controlled and financed by the Ontario Government.

The office for Legal Aid in Prescott-Russell is headed by Nathalie Champagne, Area Director.

It is best to phone the office in advance for an appointment.

Family Law Information Center (FLIC)

If you qualify for Legal Aid you may receive assistance from the lawyers from the Family Law Information Center in order to prepare/review documents and get legal advice on family law matters, the office is located at 59 Court St., L’Orignal Ontario on the 2nd floor.

Advice Lawyer Clinic

If you qualify for Legal Aid, you may receive assistance from the advice lawyer on Wednesday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on a first come first served basis. This service is offered at the Legal Aid office located at 122 Main St East, Hawkesbury Ontario.

Duty Counsel

There is a lawyer in the Ontario Court, Courthouse at 1023 King Street, who may also be able to help you. She can appear for you on more minor matters and assist on first appearances before the court as well as advising as to whether you need a lawyer.
